Editorial Reviews:

It's silly, it's superficial, it's so desperately earnest about its tale of time-spanning love that you almost wish for a cheap flatulence gag just to break the solemn mood. But there's something so unabashedly gushy and entertaining about Somewhere in Time that you can't begrudge its enduring popularity. The film has become a staple of romantic-movie lovers since its release in 1980, and endless showings on cable TV have turned it into a dubious classic of sorts--a three-hanky weeper that anyone can enjoy as a guilty pleasure or a beloved favorite, with no apologies necessary.

In his first film after the star-making success of Superman, Christopher Reeve stars as a contemporary playwright who visits a posh hotel and sees the portrait of an actress (Jane Seymour) who had performed there in 1912. He becomes obsessed with this beautiful woman and learns all he can about her, and then discovers a method of hypnotically transporting himself backward in time to meet her. "Is it ... you?" she says upon seeing the lovestruck playwright, and it's clearly a mutual attraction. But even the slightest reminder of the playwright's modern time can jar him from his seemingly real existence in the past, so his wonderful love affair is constantly just a step from being stolen away.

Based on Richard Matheson's novel Bid Time Return, this flaky film may strain one's tolerance for plot holes and corny romance, but it's hard to deny its lasting appeal--and let's face it, guys, it'll make wives and girlfriends swoon if they're in a tearjerker mood. --Jeff Shannon

Summary: Sentimental romance
Comment: My best friend, whose judgment is usually flawless, recommended this as her absolute favorite film. However, it did not work for me. In short, it's a love story with a cute premise, some interesting period scenes, and easy-on-the-eyes actors; while possibly a good film for a date, it didn't hold my attention.

Summary: damaged NEW DVD
Comment: the movie was great, what I didn't miss.....supposedly this was a NEW DVD that I ordered from Amazon, however the DVD must have been damaged some how because it kept skipping and I missed alot of the movie. Good parts too which made me not understand the full movie. I have emailed Amazon concerning this five days ago however, have not received a response back as of yet.

Summary: "Time-Crossed" Lovers +++
Comment: "Somewhere in Time" is one of the most intense and intensely satisfying shows I have ever seen -- easily matching Lord of The Rings [LOTR] in intensity, if not in general public awareness. Unlike LOTR tho, this show is only about just two "time-crossed" lovers -- meeting and re-meeting versus all odds. Rather than being IN a great grand glorious world like LOTR, the lead couple CREATE their own richly deeply private world. This brings to life the literal [oldest] meaning of world -- from wer-ald [human-being life-time]. Also, the scenery and settings are just spot-on for the several areas and eras. Much of this movie was filmed on an island where motor-vehicles move about only by special permission. The lead couple, as actors, really got into their roles -- so are utterly believable. Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour strongly wanted to co-star in this film and it shows as they shine together. There is even a huge international following of "Somewhere in Time" online +++

Summary: great movie
Comment: This is such a good movie. It's one of those timeless classics. It was made in the early 80's but the theme is timeless. It can apply to today and 50 year from now it will still be a great movie.
The two major stars (Jane Seymour & Christopher Reeve) are fantastic in this movie. The scenery is beautiful and the story line never fails to tug at your heart.
